Lahaina: Waves of Change documents two hundred yeasrs of rich and fascinating history in Lahaina, the first capital of the Hawaiian kingdom and later the center of the sugar industry in West Maui.
When Eddie Kamae learned in 1999 that Pioneer Mill was closing down down, he hired a film crew to document the last harvest, the last cane burning, and the final days of operation at Pioneer Mill. This begain an eight-year personal journey through Lahaina's complex, tumultuous, and always-changing past.
Lahaina: Waves of Change was directed by Eddie Kamae, narrated by Ka‘upena Wong, produced by Myrna Kamae with Dennis Mahaffay and Lisa Altieri Sosa, and written by Robert Pennybacker and Steve Okino. The Kamaes will introduce the film at this showing.
The meeting and film exhibition will take place in the auditorium of the Center for Hawaiian Studies. Parking is available in the adjacent parking structure for $3.00.
